What to do in Osmotherley?

Osmotherley is a firm favourite village for us, and not far from our Yorkshire holiday cottages. It can be found on the western edge of the North York Moors, surrounded by beautiful moorland and pastureland, making the perfect rural base for exploring the tranquil Hambleton and Cleveland Hills.

Most popular for its many picturesque walking routes, Osmotherley village is part of the popular 109 mile Cleveland Way walk, known as one of Yorkshire's most iconic walking trails. With fabulous views of dramatic coastline as well as moorland, castles, ancient stone crosses and fishing villages tucked in to tiny coves, this scenic route has the lot!

Whilst visiting Osmotherley, Sheepwash is a popular picnic spot north of the village. Combine it with an enjoyable stroll around the nearby Cod Beck Reservoir, surrounded by woodland, which is a picturesque and easy trail of under two miles.

Three Village Pubs!

After a day exploring, Osmotherley also has three great local pubs where you can treat yourself to a traditional hearty meal and local ales. Our personal recommendation would be the (famous with the locals) chicken kiev at the Golden Lion. There's a well-stocked local shop, a café for a slice of Fiona’s homemade cake and a traditional fish and chip shop to offer its visitors… What more could you want!

If you fancy trying something a little bit different, stroll along to Thimbleby Shooting Ground to try your hand at some clay shooting whether you are experienced or not, the perfect day out.
