Property Instructions- The Palins

Care of the Property

We have decorated and equipped the houses to a high specification, most items have been individually sourced and are expensive to replace. We do understand that occasionally accidents happen; please report breakages as soon as possible to give us time to replace them before the next guests arrive. Please also refer to our terms and conditions.

Fire Extinguisher and blanket

In the unlikely event of a fire, please note that a fire extinguisher and fire blanket can be found in the kitchen along with a first aid kit for any minor injuries.

Wi-Fi Internet Connection

We have invested in a Wi-Fi network which will allow you to connect to the internet from your house, and around the site generally, which is free to use. Look for ‘Sunhill’ on your networks and follow through onto the internet.

Using the oven

To turn the oven on, press and hold standby button for one second.

Press the P button then use the arrows to choose your desired setting.

Press the tick button to confirm your setting choice.

Press and hold play to commence.

Use the arrows to set the temperature.

Hob

The hob is an induction hob. Firstly check the isolation switch on the wall is turned on. There is a button for each ring, and the higher the number the hotter it will be.

It won’t come red and get hot without a pan placed on it. The plate will cool down slowly after you’re finished using the hob, so please do be careful.

Dishwasher

You will find some dishwasher tablets under the sink to get you started during your stay.

Should you have any problems, find the full instruction manual here:

Heating

There is a mixture of radiators and underfloor heating. This is controlled by an oil-fired boiler to provide the heating and the hot water. There are thermostats around the property to control the temperature. Please bear in mind the underfloor heated areas can take a while (2-3 hours) to react. The radiators have control dials on the radiators themselves, so try adapting these before the house thermostats.

The heated towel rails in the bathroom will remain on.

The quickest way to heat the property is by using the log burner.

Log Burner

WARNING: The outside of the stove does become hot, please do not allow children to operate or play with the stove.

Lighting the fire:

Open the door using the handle, stack kindling loosely in the chamber, place a couple of small logs on top of the kindling and two firelighters in the middle of the pile; light with a match. Try not to let the firelighters burn near the glass, as this will make it go black. Keep an eye on the fire as it starts to burn and be ready to top up with logs: Do not overfill the chamber with wood. Do not use paper as this blackens the glass.

Please note:

  • Opening both air vents will ensure a good supply of oxygen needed to get your fire going.
  • One vent can be found above the door which can be moved from side to side and the other is found beneath the door which can be turned to open the valve if you wish to get the fire roaring and closed if you wish the fire to die down.
  • Please do not attempt to burn anything other than wood on the stove, paper causes excess ash to form and can make the stove dusty and smoky.
  • There is no need to empty the ashtray during your stay as these are emptied after every guest departs.

The Garden & BBQ

Turn left out of the front door of The Palins and the private garden is roughly 50m along the drive. Outdoor seating, a gas BBQ and views of the gallops.

BBQ

There is a gas BBQ outside which you are welcome to use, you won’t need any charcoal as it’s ready to go. Please leave the BBQ grill and surroundings clean and tidy ready for future guests. Please switch off the gas using the knob on top of the bottle after use.

Dogs at Sun Hill Cottage

For your pet’s safety and consideration of our other guests, please be mindful of the following:

  • Up to 2 dogs are allowed at Sun Hill.
  • Do not allow dogs into bedrooms or onto furniture. Should dogs go on the furniture, additional cleaning or damage charges may apply.
  • Please clean up after your dog (spare bags available in the kitchen).
  • Keep your dog on a lead at all times on the grounds of Sun Hill
  • Please keep the garden gate closed, Gunner the owners’ dog used to live here and although friendly is incredibly nosey and will pop into the garden if given the chance.

Toilets

Please note this property is on a sceptic treatment tank. Nothing except toilet paper can be put down – we don’t want the drains to get blocked. If we have to unclog these, please be aware that we will need to recharge for the time this takes. Thank you for your care.

Racing Yard

Please note that the racing yard is out of bounds.

Tours of the stable yard are available and can be arranged for you (subject to availability) starting from £35 per group and can be carried out Monday and Friday with prior notice.

Badges and lunch can also be arranged in advance for local race meetings.
