Stretch your legs after the car journey with a stroll to Harmby waterfall, just outside Leyburn.

Leyburn CottagesOn Saturday, make sure you wake up early so you have time to fit everything in. Locals love to head onto the Gallops at nearby Middleham to watch the racehorses train. A fascinating place to explore is Middleham Castle, once the childhood home of Richard III, where extensive remains of the fortified palace still survive. So enjoy an early breakfast together before wrapping up for today’s adventures!
If you have kids (big or small), today is the best day to explore the award-winning The Forbidden Corner. The unique labyrinth of tunnels, chambers, follies and surprises (make sure you’re wearing waterproofs) is a day out with a difference for brave adventurers and those young at heart. Head next door to the Saddle Room restaurant for lunch, or to one of the pubs on the Leyburn market square.
Make sure you drive by Aysgarth Falls or Cauldron Falls on your way home, two of Yorkshire’s finest waterfalls with a great viewing spot to take the perfect Insta pic too. There are short paths or long trails to stretch the legs, especially great if you are staying in one of our dog friendly cottages in the Dales.
Now everybody is tired out, on your way home after a day exploring, pop for dinner with the family at The Blue Lion or treat yourself to some romantic fine dining at The Wensleydale Heifer and enjoy their delicious award-winning seafood menu. All before coming home to relax in your own bubbling hot tub.

To give your legs a rest and travel in style, hop on a train on the Wensleydale Railway, which is a heritage line using diesel locomotives and steam trains. Take the scenic route to Redmire and Bolton Castle, one of the country’s best preserved 14th-century medieval castles. Look out for the sword fighting demonstrations and falconry displays.
For over 25 years Inspired Chocolate shop has been making fancy chocolates and truffles, chocolate bars, even chocolate shoes, all of which we can highly recommend! Made onsite they also often runs chocolate making workshops throughout the year. Pick up an after dinner treat or something delicious for the journey home.
The largest auction house outside of London, Tennants Auctioneers hosts hundreds of auctions of fine art, antiques and specialist collectables annually. Have fun finding a souvenir to mark your holiday, or grab something to eat. The Garden Rooms is their popular café, and the elegant bistro is a must-visit with surprisingly good food and a good Sunday roast.
A local favourite - no matter the weather - is Brymor ice cream parlour which adjoins the dairy farm where the cows are reared. A wide number of flavours and very family friendly, it's a great stop off after visiting Jervaulx Abbey a mile down the road. The monastery ruins are a top heritage site, and a lovely place for a stroll or a picnic.
