Day One.. Richmond, North Yorkshire

When visiting North Yorkshire, make sure you make a day trip (or two) to Richmond. One of Britain’s most beautiful market towns, with it’s 11th Century castle, fine historic buildings, museum, plenty of riverside walks and a large cobbled market place with a good choice of pubs and restaurants to choose from…

Day One: Richmond North Yorkshire

Richmond is within walking distance of many of our luxury holiday properties…  For our guests staying at Brompton Lakes, wrap up warm, dig out your walking boots and follow the trail through acres of picturesque countryside. Via the impressive ruins of Easby Abbey, walk across Richmond Bridge with fabulous riverside views to The Station, a stunning Victorian railway building with a café, award-winning bakery and even a cinema.

Richmond Riverside Walks

After you have filled yourself with fabulous cakes and coffee from The Station, stroll along the fast-flowing River Swale and treat yourself to an ice cream whilst taking in the tranquil sounds of Richmond Falls. Be sure to visit Richmond Castle, one of the greatest Norman fortresses in Britain, with breathtaking views across the Yorkshire Dales, interactive exhibitions and a chance to stroll round the secluded Cockpit Garden.

Next stop is the Market Place, at the centre of Richmond, to browse the boutique shops and tea rooms, before retiring for the evening at The Fleece Hotel, with its impressive cocktail menu and local yummy food to enjoy. (We recommend saving some space for the chocolate brownie for dessert too!)

Richmond Market Place

On Saturdays make sure you don’t miss the Saturday Market in the Market Place!
