Tucked in a village between Thirsk and Masham and with picturesque countryside beyond the doorstep, Highmoor is a house of hidden treasures. This exquisite homestay beckons up to ten guests (plus pooches) with the promise of endless luxury and leisure on a group getaway.
Bursting with country charm, this Georgian manor is unlike any other home we offer. You don’t need to leave the grounds to deem this an utterly idyllic getaway. An indoor 15m heated pool and sauna, large entertaining spaces and beautiful bedrooms with some exceptional artwork, await the seekers of country grandeur. The grounds, the gym, and the reading room encourage all generations to play and unwind. Prepare yourself for the wonderful surprise that is the pool house; the high ceilings with exposed beams are jaw-dropping, and huge glass doors open onto manicured gardens.
Behind the doors you'll find a perfect blend of original Georgian features and modern-day luxuries. High ceilings and large windows help create a welcoming space in which to relax or entertain. Beyond the entrance hall, is the stunning dine-in kitchen at the heart of this holiday home. Prepare sumptuous spreads for your guests from the kitchen island and large dining table. We recommend you spoil yourselves with a visit from our talented partner private chefs; they prepare and serve a restaurant-quality meal while you put your feet up and enjoy.
On warmer days open the giant French doors out to the spacious patio, the perfect spot for al fresco dining or a morning coffee whilst appreciating the beautiful gardens. A discrete door in the kitchen, which could be mistaken for a pantry, leads down to the original cellar, now fully fitted with a home gym, steam room, and sauna!?
Across the hall, a generous sitting room with comfy sofas and armchairs, overlooking the lawns and rose garden. Cosy up in front of the fire and enjoy a film on the hidden pop-up TV. Sonos speakers connect throughout the house to create the ambience you desire.
While away an afternoon in the study, filled with board games, cards, and a chessboard. A further snug is tucked across the hallway beyond the kitchen. Chic and comfortable, it is the ideal space for kids (and big kids) to play games or to settle in front of the large TV with surround sound speakers and Sky while sprawled on the huge L-shaped sofa.?
Sweep up the grand staircase with the twinkling Venetian glass chandelier overhead, and find five comfortable bedrooms. The elegant master suite is one of the biggest bedrooms we've seen by far, boasting a super king bed, sofa, and wardrobes galore. Light the fire and while away the morning in the decadent freestanding roll-top bath. The en-suite facilities in this open-plan bedroom also include a large basin and toilet.
The second bedroom has a magnificent four-poster bed and looks over the garden, also with a fire and plenty of storage. A third nearby bedroom also overlooking the garden can be made up as a super-king bed or as a twin room for families. These share a bathroom across the hall, with elegant wood panelling and a bath and shower overhead.
The fourth bedroom has a king-size bed, a walk-in wardrobe. Next door is a further bathroom with an overhead shower. The fifth bedroom is a large yet cosy double room, with an en-suite shower and toilet.
A second staircase sweeps back down to the entrance hall and kitchen. All bedrooms benefit from high ceilings, warm and welcoming interiors, and gorgeous views of the grounds.?
Pretty gardens await your at Highmoor, wrapping around the house and beautifully maintained. Guests will enjoy wandering around the property discovering the various nooks and quiet spots. Well-kept rose beds and charming features such as the bubbling fountain and fruit trees make this house so charming. A croquet lawn at the top of the garden offers the best view from which to appreciate the setting.
A perfect evening can be spent with children roasting marshmallows over a fire pit, whether you’re on a summer holiday or winter retreat.?
What was once was a dilapidated brick barn, now houses the incredible swimming pool. Designed by local architects and renovated with no expense spared, the 15m heated indoor pool is accessed through full height 3.5m glass doors. These can be opened on sunny days, letting light flood over the turquoise waters.?It’s the perfect spot to kick back with an ice-cold tonic in hand devouring a great book on a lounger, while the rest of the party splash. There is a shower, changing area, and cloakroom, making this a perfectly equipped holiday home with a pool.
Behind the electric gates, there is plenty of parking on the driveway. The kitchen includes a large Smeg range cooker, an American fridge freezer, and a dishwasher. The cloakroom is located on the ground floor. You will find high-quality linen, towels, bathrobes and a selection of toiletries are included.
At the back door, and adjacent to the kitchen and utility room, a handy boot room stores coats and wellies made muddy from long walks through the stunning surrounding countryside. The utility room includes a washing machine, tumble dryer, and plenty of extra storage.
Two well-behaved dogs are welcome at Highmoor for a small additional cost. A cot and a highchair are available on request for families.
Located in Ainderby Quernhow, Highmoor sits in an ideal location from which to explore the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors. Keen walkers can head out and enjoy the many wonderful routes and local landmarks that make this countryside so special. The nearby market towns of Masham, Bedale, and Thirsk are a short drive away; each has a choice of local shops and cafés, traditional pubs, restaurants, and a weekly farmers’ market.
Within an easy drive is Ripon, one of the oldest cities in England and with a majestic cathedral to visit. York and Harrogate are a 40-minute drive away, and both are high on the list of recommended places to visit in North Yorkshire.
