Day Twelve of our Autumn Adventures…

Knaresborough is full of surprises, and just under an hours drive from Richmond it has something to offer the whole family with picturesque riverside walks, a 14th century castle and plenty of great restaurants and cafes to choose from, or simply sit along the river and enjoy the tranquil view of passing boats with a local Brymor ice cream...

Visit the unique Mother Shipton’s Cave and the Petrifying Well, one of Yorkshires top attractions, where visitors can walk along the woodland path that winds alongside the river and through what remains of the Royal Forest of Knaresborough, become enchanted by the park’s natural beauty, mesmerized by the petrifying well and fascinated by Mother Shipton’s story. Behold the mystical powers of the mystical water that turns all it touches to stone! Don't forget your picnic as there are three picnic areas and two childrens play areas, one of which is a brand-new adventure playground.

Weave your way up cobbled streets and stone staircases to the top of the hill, where you will find Knaresborough castle perched on the cliffs with stunning views overlooking the River Nidd. Take a tour of the castle and discover the medieval 14th century history of the King’s chamber, visit the dungeon and scurry through the secret underground exit.

Stroll around the market place in the centre of town with lots of local shops and great places to eat. On a Wednesday stalls fill the market place offering local produce at the ever popular Knaresborough market.

Hop on the train in to Harrogate for a bit more shopping and glide over the imposing railway viaduct looking down on the River Nidd which offers an amazing view. Make sure you try a slice of homemade cake at the famous Bettys tea room whilst you're there.

We have lots of luxury holiday accommodation across Richmond, North Yorkshire available for a weekend away or a short break mid week, we have something for everyone. Look online at our availability here...
