You would be forgiven for not venturing beyond this beautiful garden, however, Paddock View’s central village location means there is plenty for the whole family. Even better, the North York Moors right on your doorstep is just waiting to be explored. Osmotherley is famous for the three major walks which pass through the village, The Coast to Coast Walk, The Cleveland Way and The Lyke Wake Walk.
The village has three local pubs – The Golden Lion, The Three Tuns , and The Queen Catherine. An award-winning fish and chip shop, a coffee shop, and a village store with a small delicatessen are all just a few minutes’ walk from this luxury holiday cottage. Afterwards, for a family-friendly walk, enjoy nature spotting at Cod Beck Reservoir, a well-known beauty spot that sits only a mile outside of the village.
For a day out with a difference, book a session at nearby Thimbleby Shooting Ground, which has recently added on a quality cafe and restaurant only a short countryside stroll from Paddock View cottage. Enjoy a day shooting clays or simply pop in for a coffee or a meal and enjoy the picturesque rural setting.
When it comes to exploring, the North York Moors are on your doorstep offering plenty of variety, and many walking and cycling routes. Ramblers can pack their bags with local produce and head off into the hills for the day.
Nearby is Mount Grace Priory, a five-minute drive or 15-minute walk, and a peaceful day out with family. A preserved 14th-century Carthusian monastery, explore its striking surviving tower and reconstructed monks cell. Then, wander through the Manor House and enjoy acres of gardens that attract a huge amount of wildlife.
Nearby to this Yorkshire holiday cottage is the thriving Northallerton, 6 miles away. This market town offers everyday shopping, boutique stores, and a mix of eateries, from pub grub to delicatessens and coffee shops. Certainly worth a visit is Lewis and Cooper, an award-winning independent store full of flavoursome food and fine wine. Whilst there, also make sure to visit the famous Betty’s Tea Room, featured on BBC’s Remarkable Places to Eat, for their highly recommended ‘Fat Rascal’ homemade cake. And, offering a colourful shopping experience, are Wednesday and Saturday markets which sell fresh local produce from a great range of stallholders.
Further afield you can take a scenic drive over the North York Moors and discover some of Yorkshire’s finest countryside, with plenty of unique market towns to explore such as Stokesley, Thirsk, and Helmsley.
