Whether looking for an adventure or a true refuge, you will revel in this luxury lodge...

New York Public Library offers a chance to relax in a peaceful yet inspirational environment, while enjoying the height of style. The layout of this contemporary holiday home is perfect for a group looking for Yorkshire holiday accommodation with a difference...

Designed and built by acclaimed writer, art collector, and curator, Greville Worthington, this lodge is close to the historic market town of Richmond. Greville took inspiration for New York Public Library from a Japanese wood-burning craft that preserves and enhances the beauty of wood over time. It was designed as a calming Yorkshire retreat for guests of all ages. The dark wood exterior provides guests with a truly unique setting. It is certainly unlike any other luxury holiday home!

It’s important to note that this property is not in New York, nor is it a library or even open to the public! The owner, a gentleman of great creative thought, lives a nearby deconsecrated former church, part of which is based on the old public library in York. And that's how the 'new York public library' found its name.

Just like its name, this striking holiday home is totally unexpected. The panoramic glass sliding doors take you straight into the heart of the property. A spacious and impressive living and dining area where guests can indulge with friends and family, or relax taking in the views.

Carefully selected interiors and art pieces create an inspiring and eclectic living area. Well-considered artwork adorns the walls throughout. In pride of place is a table football, fun for the kids (and big kids). This luxury lodge style home will stick in your mind for years to come thanks to its distinctive features.

There are three bedrooms in the main house, plus a stylish fourth bedroom in the separate annex - ideal for a couple looking for some privacy. Upstairs two double bedrooms are flooded with natural light, with sliding doors that open onto the south-facing sun terrace. The master bedroom has a fantastic feature bath, and a separate toilet. The third bedroom is a twin room, with two single beds. There is also a house bathroom with a large walk-in shower.

The separate annex provides a large bedroom with a private outdoor seating area. There is a super king-size bed which can be split into a twin bed. En-suite wet room with a shower, well suited to guests with reduced mobility.

From all aspects of the lodge, guests can view the surrounding and ever-changing private park and woodlands. The outdoor spaces provide entertainment or quiet relaxation, depending on what you're looking for.

Enjoy the private jacuzzi-style garden hot tub. We recommend an outdoor cooking experience at the Patagonia Grill Station or the wood fired pizza oven. Light up the fire pit while the children explore the tree house.

In the garden is a unique art installation created by architect and designer Amanda Levete. Sour Beck runs through the field opposite and there are plenty of great picnic sites to be found. It’s a short walk to the bluebell woodland gardens which has a superb collection of rare trees and shrubs including bamboos, magnolias, and witch hazels.

There is wi-fi throughout this luxury lodge, and ample parking for up to five cars. The modern kitchen has a full inventory, including a large fridge and cooker and a separate wine cooler. A washing machine and tumble dryer are available. Outside, there is outdoor seating alongside the BBQ (charcoal included) and pizza oven.

All our holiday homes include high-quality bed linen, towels, bathrobes, and toiletries. There is a starter pack for the kitchen, fire, and washroom, and of course, a locally sourced welcome hamper on arrival.

In The Area

New York Public Library is fantastic because it feels wonderfully secluded, yet there are shops less than a mile away. Stock up for the outdoor Patagonian grilling station by heading to Premier Meats in Colburn for a wide choice and a small greengrocer.

The property is a couple of miles from the market town of Richmond, North Yorkshire, commonly known as ‘The Gateway to The Dales’. With its 11th Century castle, fine historic buildings, cobbled market place, and hidden corners, it is a treasure trove for visitors. We recommend Rustique, a popular French restaurant, and Barretts for the food. Millgate House Gardens overlooks the River Swale and is described as “one of the most surprising gardens in the North of England”.
