About Porte House

This newly launched townhouse is in a wonderful location for the exploring Richmond and walks along the River Swale.

Set in the picturesque market town Richmond, North Yorkshire, this Grade II listed period townhouse dating from the 1700s has been completely refurbished in 2019. The house feels incredibly luxurious throughout, with all the modern conveniences you need for a luxury break in a dog-friendly holiday home in Yorkshire.

Step into the entrance hall off the cobbled street Frenchgate, and marvel at the high ceilings and Georgian features. The dining room has a large antique table, leather chairs and a log burner. The generously sized room is perfect for an evening in on a group getaway or family holiday.

The shaker-style kitchen has high ceilings and a large window with views of the courtyard. This well-equipped kitchen has everything you could need for a luxury self-catering holiday in North Yorkshire. Fire up the electric Aga, perfect for baking or making Sunday lunch with the gang using produce bought at the weekly Richmond market. There is a large fridge freezer, a Belfast sink, a radio, and a dishwasher. Bring along your favourite flavoured coffee for the Nespresso coffee machine.

Outside the kitchen, the courtyard is a sun trap in the evening. Relax on the outdoor chairs or cook on the BBQ. In the courtyard, the den is a fun hideaway with a traditional but electric fire and comfy leather chairs. It’s perfect for entertaining the kids or for an evening gin and tonic with the girls.

There is a handy ground floor WC. In the cellar, find the well-equipped utility room.

Upstairs…

The sitting room is on the first floor. Lounge into the comfortable sofa in front of the open fire, or pop on the TV for a lazy afternoon or evening. With rich blues and soft grey tones, this perfect large room is luxurious and welcoming.

The master bedroom is on the first floor looking over the courtyard. Lovely interiors, plenty of storage, and a king-sized bed, and the original shutters give it plenty of character. On the second floor are the further two bedrooms. The first looks over Frenchgate, with a king-sized bed and warm colours. The third bedroom has wooden beams and a cosy double bed.

The spacious bathroom has a large slipper bath, where a whole evening could be spent in pure relaxation. The bath which sits underneath the window with views over Frenchgate and the Richmond hills beyond. There is a separate large walk-in rainfall shower.

Practicalities…

Arrive at this luxury dog-friendly holiday home in Yorkshire to a locally sourced welcome hamper. A starter pack of items under the kitchen sink and in the washroom will get you going. There is free wi-fi, and high-quality bed linen, towels and toiletries. The kitchen is equipped with a fridge freezer, dishwasher, Aga, and Bluetooth radio. The utility room has a washing machine, dryer and iron.

There is free on-street parking on Frenchgate, available on a first come first serve basis. Richmond is a twenty-minute drive to Northallerton train station and an hour from Newcastle Airport, making it accessible from all over the UK.

In the area…

On your luxury break, take in some of the local sights and the fantastic North Yorkshire pubs and restaurants locally. It is a few minutes’ stroll into the heart of Richmond or to idyllic riverside walks. Explore Richmond Castle, the museums, the large cobbled marketplace, and the thriving shops, pubs and restaurants.

For dinner, Rustique has delicious French cuisine or for a relaxed evening try No.29 for ales, gins and tapas. Saturdays are market day in the centre of the Market Place, be sure to pick up a few local Yorkshire products before you head home. We recommend a walk along the River Swale to The Station with its award-winning bakery, a great café and fantastic two-screen cinema. There is so much to explore in the area, it is hard to fit it in on just a short break in Yorkshire. Richmond is known as the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales. with interesting walks, abbeys, castles, pretty villages and great pubs. Explore the beautiful market towns, rent bikes for the day from Reeth, go walking with the dog by Jervaulx Abbey and grab a Brymoor ice cream after. We also like to wander around the market square in Masham and to visit The Black Sheep Brewery.
