About Shearing Shed

A stunning five bedroom large country house in North Yorkshire full of interiors inspiration

Shearing Shed is located in the picturesque North Yorkshire village of Gayles. Near the historic market town of Richmond, this is the perfect choice for large families and groups of friends. Especially those looking to explore the beauty of the Yorkshire Dales in stunning surroundings.

Relax in this grand five-bedroom property, recently converted into a warm and welcoming holiday home. Full of charm, the Grade II listed characteristics include open fires, exposed stone walls and lovingly restored wooden beams. The design-led interiors are simply stunning. Yet there is a contemporary feel throughout, and the latest technology ensures the very best in modern comfort living. This is a truly amazing new luxury retreat, from the owners of Greenbank Barns.

Inside…

Step inside the sitting room, a most stylish entrance. With oak flooring, a games table, and richly coloured comfy sofas. The log burning stove is just waiting to be lit. Floor-to-ceiling windows throughout the house offer the most gorgeous views of the rolling Yorkshire hills. Big country house breaks have never been as chic.

Make your way into the spacious open plan living and dining area which is the oldest part of the house. The double height ceiling boasts original wooden beams, and arrow-slit windows have been made a feature of the room, set into the exposed stone walls.

Contemporary interior designs plus some antique pieces are sure to impress the whole family. Similarly, the large bespoke dining table was handmade locally and can seat ten guests comfortably. Settle down after dinner on one of the incredibly comfortable sofas in the sung. In front of the warm glow of the log burning stove enjoy a family movie on the large Smart TV. It’s a perfect and cosy space to switch off and recharge.

At the heart of this holiday home is the gorgeous farmhouse-style kitchen. The large central island and high stools around it are the perfect place for a relaxed morning coffee. Otherwise, maybe you prefer a late-night glass of wine straight out of the separate wine cooler. Traditional rustic features combine elegantly with sage coloured units, white granite worktops, and the latest Farrow and Ball colours on the walls.

You will find everything you should need for a luxury self-catering break. The cupboards are stocked with all the crockery and cookware, and there are two electric ovens, a hob, American-style fridge freezer, and a dishwasher. And the shape of the kitchen is hexagonal, making it truly unique. While the large floor-to-ceiling windows open out onto the patio garden.

A separate boot room doubles as a utility room. In addition, this houses the washing machine and dryer, and is also handy for storing muddy shoes after a long day exploring the area.

Bedrooms…

The ground floor spacious master bedroom shows off French greys and pastel pinks. The lush fabrics alongside the character beams and a re-upholstered antique chair make this a truly romantic bedroom. The super king size bed can be split up into twins, to offer flexible sleeping arrangements. Next door is a spacious bathroom with walk-in shower and a bathtub to indulge in.

A stunning mezzanine bedroom is a fantastic feature overlooking the dining room. Still with the original wooden beams, it is complemented with pastel colours and floral wallpaper behind the button-down headboard. The large en-suite bathroom has a luxury freestanding and large walk-in shower.

Next door is another stylish bedroom in yellows and an accent warm red. The sliding stable door leads into the en-suite shower room. Two further double bedrooms are accessed via the atrium staircase in the centre of the house. They look out to the Yorkshire Dales and share a house bathroom next door with walk-in shower and enticing bathtub.

Outside…

Outside, step out of the kitchen to enjoy drawn out al fresco lunches in the attractive rear patio garden. The elegant polished cement and Acacia wooden table is on a raised patio, above the garden jacuzzi-style hot tub. From here are stairs that lead up to the shepherd’s hut BBQ house. Sitting high above the house, the views are unrivalled. Beyond the house look out to the stunning surrounding North Yorkshire countryside, it offers true rural bliss.

Practicalities…

There is free wi-fi throughout and private parking on the gravel driveway outside. The modern kitchen has a full inventory for that home from home experience, with an American-style fridge freezer, wine cooler and dishwasher. Washing facilities are in the boot room. There are Smart TVs and a bluetooth sound system. All our holiday homes include high quality bed linen, towels, bath robes, as well as luxury toiletries. There is also a starter pack for the kitchen, fire and washroom. And of course a locally sourced welcome hamper.
