Set underneath the ramparts of medieval Richmond Castle there are many interesting things to discover. Darcy Mews is the perfect country retreat for couples and families to explore North Yorkshire from with many stunning walks from your doorstep.

Around the corner is the beautiful Station. Once a Victorian railway, this historic building has been renovated to deal with all of your needs. Seat yourself at the Cafe Bar for lunch or dinner, before seeing what’s on in the cinema. Wander down to the other side of the building to find a number of local produce shops, Richmond Brewery Company, and an ice cream parlour!
Discover Richmond
Richmond Marketplace is home to some lovely independent shops, cafés, restaurants and traditional cobbled streets, the impressive horseshoe-shaped Market Place has been at the centre of Richmond’s life for centuries. Take a stroll around the square, browse local produce and artisan goods, enjoy a coffee or soak up the atmosphere before exploring Richmond Castle and the wider Yorkshire Dales.
Explore Market Towns

Richmond Castle is one of the most impressive historic attractions in Richmond, North Yorkshire, towering above the River Swale and offering spectacular views across the town and towards Swaledale. Built in the 1070s following the Norman Conquest, Richmond Castle is one of England’s best-preserved early Norman castles, with its magnificent 12th-century keep, ancient walls, towers, and historic courtyard still standing today. Visitors can explore the castle’s fascinating history, climb the keep for panoramic Yorkshire views, and discover the poignant story of the Richmond Sixteen and the First World War conscientious objectors.
Richmond Castle
A beautiful Richmond walking route taking you from The Station along the old railway line to the atmospheric ruins of Easby Abbey, before returning beside the River Swale. With woodland, riverside scenery, historic buildings and plenty of lovely picnic spots, this easy-going circular walk is a firm favourite for exploring the countryside around Richmond.

Starting in Richmond Market Place, this scenic circular route takes in Richmond Castle, the River Swale and Richmond’s famous waterfalls before heading towards Easby Abbey and returning along the old railway line. A wonderful way to combine the town’s history with peaceful riverside and countryside views.

Hudswell Woods is a beautiful woodland walk just outside Richmond, with ancient trees, dappled woodland paths, wildflower meadows and the River Swale running alongside. The Richmond and Hudswell Woods Circular is around 3.8 miles and combines peaceful woodland with lovely views back towards Richmond Castle
