A Silver Medal for our Lodges
This week tourism businesses from around Yorkshire gathered at the First Direct Arena in Leeds for the White Rose Awards. This is Welcome to Yorkshire’s prestigious event to recognise the best in the industry. Brompton Lakes was honoured in the self-catering accommodation category, as one of the best holiday destinations in Yorkshire.
North Yorkshire did very well once again at this year’s awards, winning in multiple categories for its visitor attractions, dining and holiday destinations. Brompton Lakes was named the second best self-catering accommodation, a triumph for the lodges which have been commended the last five years at the awards.
Brompton Lakes last won the awards in 2014, and this latest achievement is even more exciting as we reach our tenth year. It also puts us on the map as one of the best holiday destinations in the UK.
Will and Charlotte, owners and directors, said, “We bring thousands of visitors to Richmondshire every year through Brompton Lakes and this award makes us incredibly proud of our team and all their hard work. To come second is fantastic, and now we have a year work hard and earn that top spot.”
Sustainable Tourism on the Agenda
Ethical tourism, accessibility, and sustainability were high on the agenda for the judges this year. Brompton Lakes’ submission had an environmental focus and committed itself to reduce waste as part of Holiday at Home’s developing environmental policies.
Earlier this year, we introduced toiletries in bottles made of wheat straw, an agricultural by-product that can be recycled, removing over 9,000 single-use plastic bottles a year. Another move has been the new lodge bedroom blankets which feel luxurious, whilst being made from recycled plastic bottles!
Charlotte said, “we have an opportunity to create large scale change. Brompton Lakes is an amazing spot, and the surrounding wildlife when sitting by the lakes can really remind us why every little change can add up to big change.”
All the White Rose Awards medal winners from Yorkshire will all now go on to the national VisitEngland Awards for Excellence which will be announced in June 2020.
