A rural retreat in North Yorkshire with a fantastic garden, ideal for a luxury countryside escape with family...

Close to the Yorkshire Dales, but ideally positioned off the main routes of the A66 Pennine Way and the A1 Scotch Corner, Fairfield House is within easy driving distance to many popular attractions and locations. When you venture out, take long walks across the Dales or the North York Moors, explore the historic market towns of Barnard Castle and Richmond, or simply ramble around the local villages and refuel at the pub with a hearty lunch.

Park up at the front of the cottage and open the door to a cosy, characterful hideaway with all the home comforts you could wish for. Leading off the hallway, the open plan living and dining area are ideal for groups to spend time together. Drinking freshly ground coffee from the De'Longhi coffee machine at the kitchen island with its breakfast bar and clean white granite worktops, or gather together around the wooden dining table for a meal. The kitchen is well-equipped with an electric range oven and American fridge freezer, and you'll be cooking with wonderful views over open fields beyond.

A few steps up from the kitchen is the dining area, and the living area is alongside. Sink into the sumptuous leather sofa whilst staying cosy by the log burner. On winter days this will be the heart of the home, where families can cosy up with board games or in front of a film after indulging in an evening meal together. Or, if you are in need of some quiet time, the snug opposite also offers more space to sink into relaxation with a large comfy sofa offering plenty of room to sprawl out and enjoy some alone time with a good book or Netflix series.

There is underfloor heating throughout, to keep you cosy. Take of your coats in the boot room and rinse off those muddy walking boots after a day's adventure. There's also a separate cloakroom in here.

Upstairs you will find three beautifully appointed bedrooms. Step down into the master bedroom, through the private dressing room which offers extra space for a little one on the pull-out bed or for a travel cot. Wake up in the king-sized bed to glorious morning views over the sweeping countryside and beyond from your bedside. The en-suite bathroom includes a large walk-in shower, and there's a dressing table as well as a television in the bedroom.

The 'pink room' and the 'blue room' are each spacious, with plenty of storage as well as a dressing table and a television. Both also offer super comfy king-sized beds, swathed in super-soft linens and a throw. They share the house bathroom, complete with a free-standing roll-top bath and a separate walk-in shower. All three bedrooms are a delightful space to retreat to at the end of a busy day exploring the wild beauty that is North Yorkshire.

Outside, at this beautifully boutique hideaway, you will find a large enclosed garden, perfect for meals alfresco whilst gazing out over the countryside and beyond. A highlight is the outdoor kitchen; this is the ideal entertainment space with a pizza oven, gas BBQ, hot plate, fire pit and a large outdoor sofa, perfect for balmy barefooted afternoons with family and friends. In this luxury cottage with a hot tub, the jacuzzi spa is set in a wonderfully private spot to watch the sunset in the evening and spot the stars as they appear in the inky night sky.

Fairfield House has off-street parking for two cars. There is electric car charging for one car available on the driveway.

On arrival, you will find a locally sourced welcome hamper. The kitchen is well equipped for a home from home experience, with a dishwasher and American fridge freezer with ice maker. There is a washing machine in the boot room. A starter pack of logs, kindling, towels and robes for the hot tub, and toiletries are included.

This is a dog friendly cottage, allowing two well-behaved pets. Whilst the garden is enclosed it is not escape-proof. Thank you for being conscious of the surrounding fields and livestock when in the garden and walking dogs on the many public footpaths nearby.

In The Area

Dalton is a small village tucked away close to the Yorkshire Dales. Nestled in the valley of Holmedale, the cottage is surrounded by the breathtaking countryside of North Yorkshire and Teesdale. Out and about from Fairfield House are many public footpaths, cycle paths, and bridleways that take you into the magnificent, unspoiled countryside.

Stock up en-route at a favourite local grocery shop Mainsgill Farm Shop, a 5-minute drive away with its own café and delicatessen. We also can recommend Stoneygate Farm Shop and its cafe, just a few minutes further away, selling meat reared on the farm, homemade pies, and a selection of staples.

The Shoulder of Mutton is a traditional pub in Kirkby Hill, a couple of miles away. The Milbank Arms in Barningham, also 2 miles away, serves a gastro menu and during Spring and Summer months has an outdoor kitchen. Gilling West and Ravensworth are also pretty local villages full of traditional Yorkshire stone houses and a pub.

Barnard Castle is a 15-minute drive away and is a must-visit for a day out. Experience the heritage and beauty that the market town offers, renowned for its independent shops selling cheeses, breads, antiques, interiors and gifts. Market day is held on ‘the cobbles’ every Wednesday. The main attraction is the Bowes Museum, an impressive French-style chateau, surrounded by gardens and parkland.

The bustling market town of Richmond is only a 5 mile drive; its complete with a medieval castle, Georgian theatre and riverbank walks with views over Swaledale. The town’s large cobbled marketplace offers traditional tea shops, pubs, and an excellent choice of restaurants and shops. Browse the weekly market on Saturday's, which provide ample chance to enjoy some local produce and crafts.

In the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Beauty we recommend a visit to High Force Waterfall, or into the Dales visit Aysgarth Falls, both a 40-minute drive. Raby Castle, Bolton Castle in Middleham, and Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal all offer heritage and are family friendly, within an hours' drive. There is so much to explore from your doorstep...
