About Weavers Cottage

Escape to this cosy and stylish four-bedroom cottage, a perfect base for exploring the Yorkshire Moors and beyond before coming back to relax in front of a roaring log burner.

In the charming village of Carlton in Cleveland in North Yorkshire is Weavers Cottage. This luxury holiday home has everything you could wish for on a self-catering holiday to North Yorkshire with family or friends. There are four bedrooms sleeping seven guests, and an occasional bed allows you to include an eighth guest. Enjoy cosy log burning stoves and a fully equipped kitchen. It boasts countryside views and you can also see the photogenic Roseberry Topping from the window. There is plenty to do on your doorstep, if you can drag yourself out of this charming cottage. It is a fantastic countryside getaway.

Walk up the lovely old stone steps into the cottage, drop your boots off and make yourself at home. The ground floor is full of character with exposed brickwork and beams, and odes to Yorkshire and the house’s past life as two weavers’ cottages. The living room has traditional features and warm bright colourful interiors. With plenty of comfortable seating and a view of the front garden, enjoy the apple tree and the sun that streams through in summer, or in winter light up the log burner and cosy up with a cup of tea or glass of wine and a film on the Smart TV after a long day exploring the Yorkshire Moors.

The kitchen seats eight guests and is well-equipped for every occasion. With a large cooker, or a BBQ to cook from outside, it is the perfect place to gather for a delicious meal using local produce picked up from Stokesley’s Friday market or nearby Roots or Five Houses farm shops. The colourful kitchen units have all been hand painted in rich colours. Alongside the adjoining conservatory, the room is a key feature at the heart of this Yorkshire holiday self-catering cottage.

Next to the kitchen is the snug, with a log burner and comfy seating. Settle in on the large sofa and bean bags to play a board game or plan your route for tomorrow’s adventures. After a long day exploring it’s a second space to settle in to watch the large smart TV. This is a perfect room for keeping the children entertained if you’re on a family holiday, or for a competitive game of darts and a whisky on your fun weekend escape.

We recommend taking your morning coffee in the conservatory. From the rattan style furniture, it is a lovely spot to take in the pretty rear garden. For your convenience, there is also a ground floor cloakroom.

The four contemporary-styled bedrooms are all light and spacious, and named as an acknowledgement to the cottage’s past. The Silk bedroom is the master, boasting an en-suite shower room. The bed is king-sized and the warm green colours set the scene for the beautiful views from the window. You can even see the iconic Roseberry Topping in the distance. This bathroom has a walk-in rainfall shower.

Linen bedroom also looks towards the garden at the front of the house. This bedroom, with its purple and blue bold printed headboard, has plenty of storage space. Cotton is a large bedroom with windows that look over the rear garden. It feels bright and fresh; the effect of the light cast off the cut glass light shades is enchanting. The super king-size zip-and-link beds in both Linen and Cotton bedrooms mean they can be set as a double or a twin room.

Wool is a spacious single bedroom. It has an occasional bed with an extension that can be pulled from underneath create a small double or a twin room, should you need to sleep an eighth guest. This also makes a lovely children’s room in the house. Each bedroom benefits from a smart TV, hanging and drawer space, and a hairdryer.

The two gardens make Weavers Cottage an ideal family friendly holiday cottage, as well as a great spot for a dog friendly holiday. To the front of the house is a private open garden with mature shrubs and an apple tree to picnic underneath.

To the rear of the house, step out from the conservatory into the enclosed lawned garden. If you arrive at the right time of year, your welcome pack may even include homemade jam from the plum tree in the garden. The garden has outdoor seating under a parasol and a BBQ. In colder months, cosy up in the conservatory and enjoy the view with afternoon tea snuggled under a blanket.

In the area…

This fantastic countryside getaway has something to do on your doorstep all year round. Carlton in Cleveland is in the North York Moors National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty with iconic views. In the village, you have the fantastic pub The Blackwell Ox. Offering something a little different, it serves authentic Thai cuisine in a charming country setting, as well as traditional British fare. There is a log fire inside and plenty of outside seating if you have your pooch in tow. Our other favourite pub is The Golden Lion in Osmotherley, one not to be missed.

Carlton is close to the market town Stokesley; an elegant market town full of amenities and known as a gateway to the North York Moors. Visit the weekly market, and pop into one of the many coffee shops or the Green Man micropub. We like to stock up with groceries and other locally grown produce at either Roots or Five Houses farm shops, both a fifteen-minute drive away.

Surrounded by panoramic views, this Yorkshire holiday cottage is a good starting point for exploring the Moors. There are many established walks, cycle paths and bridleways in the local area, through some of the most unspoilt countryside Yorkshire has to offer. At the top Carlton Bank above the village is the historical site of Lord Stones; a wonderful walking area, also with parking and a café. The Cleveland cottage is also ideally situated near the famous 100-mile Cleveland Way walk, which runs from Helmsley to Filey on the coast.

Another must-do for the active visitor is to hire a bike or electric bike to explore the great outdoors from The Rusty Bike in Swainby. Make sure to head back afterward for coffee and home baked cake in front of the cosy fire. Guests with their own bikes are welcome to use the secure storage at the cottage.

Further afield, we recommend a coastal drive to Whitby or Saltburn. Enjoy the scenic coastal setting, plenty of attractions, a long beach walk and some well-deserved fish and chips. There is also an award-winning fish & chip shop closer to home in Osmotherley. The nearest train station to Weavers Cottage is Northallerton, on the main line from London to Edinburgh and twenty minutes’ drive away. Once arrived for a weekend escape, there will be plenty to keep you occupied!
