About Weavers Cottage

This luxury cottage is a perfect base for exploring the North York Moors before coming back to relax in front of a roaring log burner.

This luxury holiday home has everything you could wish for in a country cottage in North Yorkshire with family or friends. There are four bedrooms sleeping seven guests, and an occasional bed allows you to include an eighth guest. Enjoy cosy log burning stoves and a fully equipped kitchen. It boasts countryside views including the Cleveland Hills and the distinctive Roseberry Topping.

“Weavers Cottage was absolutely beautiful, a real home from home, with everything we needed and more! It was so cosy in the Autumnal weather, with roaring fires and comfortable beds and sofas, we really loved our stay. The hosts were extremely welcoming! It is our third stay with Holiday at Home and we would not want to stay with any other company now!” Lisa, October 2019

Ground Floor…

Walk up the lovely old stone steps into the cottage, kick your boots off and make yourself at home. The ground floor is full of character with exposed beams and brickwork, reminders of the house’s past life as two weavers’ cottages.

The living room has warm bright colourful interiors combined with some original features. With plenty of comfortable seating and a view of the front garden, in Winter light up the log burner and cosy up with a cup of tea or glass of wine and a film on the Smart TV after a long day exploring the Yorkshire Moors. In Summer, enjoy the apple tree and the sun that streams through from the garden.

The kitchen seats eight guests and is well-equipped for every occasion. With a double range oven and a BBQ outside in the summer, it is the perfect place to gather for a delicious meal using local produce, perhaps picked up from Stokesley’s Friday market or the nearby Roots and Five Houses farm shops. The high-quality units in the kitchen have all been hand-painted in rich colours. The kitchen adjoins the conservatory, a key feature at the heart of this Yorkshire self-catering cottage.

Next to the kitchen is the snug, with a second log burner and comfortable seating. Settle in on the large sofa and bean bags to play a board game or plan your route for tomorrow’s adventures. After a great day out exploring it’s another space to settle in to watch TV. This is a perfect room for keeping the children entertained if you’re on a family holiday or a fun weekend escape.

The conservatory is a lovely spot to take your morning coffee, with its rattan style furniture it overlooks the pretty rear garden. For your convenience, there is also a ground floor cloakroom.

Upstairs…

Sleeping seven guests, an occasional bed allows you to include an eighth guest. The four contemporary-styled bedrooms are all light and spacious and named as an acknowledgement to this Yorkshire country cottage’s past.

The Silk bedroom is the master, boasting an en-suite shower room. The bed is king-sized and the warm green colours set the scene for the beautiful views from the window. You can even see the iconic Roseberry Topping in the distance. This bathroom has a walk-in rainfall shower.

Linen bedroom also looks towards the garden at the front of the house. This bedroom, with its purple and blue bold printed headboard, has plenty of storage space. Cotton is a large bedroom with windows that look over the rear garden. It feels bright and fresh; the effect of the light cast off the cut glass light shades is enchanting. The super-king-size zip-and-link beds in both Linen and Cotton bedrooms mean they can be set as a double or a twin room.

Wool is a spacious single bedroom. It has an occasional bed with an extension that can be pulled from underneath create a small double or a twin room, should you need to sleep an eighth guest. This also makes a lovely children’s room in the house. Each bedroom benefits from a smart TV, hanging and drawer space, and a hairdryer.

Outside…

This Yorkshire country cottage boasts two gardens, making it a perfect place to escape to with your family. The dogs will love it too! The garden at the front of the house is private with mature shrubs and an apple tree to picnic underneath.

At the rear of the house, step out from the conservatory into the enclosed lawned garden. Your complimentary welcome hamper may even include homemade jam made from the plums on the tree in the garden. There is outdoor seating under a parasol and a large gas BBQ. In colder months, cosy up in the conservatory and enjoy the view with afternoon tea.

In the area…

This fantastic countryside getaway offers plenty to do in the locality, all year round. Carlton-in-Cleveland is in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty with iconic views. For a handy guide, here’s our Top 10 To Do’s in the area.

In the village, you have the popular pub The Blackwell Ox, specialising in authentic Thai cuisine, as well as traditional British fare, with a good selection of excellent local ales. There is a log fire inside and plenty of outside seating if you have your pooch in tow. One of our favourite pubs in North Yorkshire iThe Golden Lion in Osmotherley, a few miles south and dog-friendly, not to be missed!

We like to stock up with groceries and other locally grown produce at either Roots or Five Houses farm shops, both a fifteen-minute drive away from the cottage.

Carlton is just a fiveminute drive from Stokesley, North Yorkshire; an elegant market town with excellent amenities. Visit the weekly market, pop into one of the many coffee shops or the Green Man micropub. Further extensive facilities can be found on Teesside which is 9 miles north of Carlton.

Nestled under the Cleveland Hills with panoramic views, this Yorkshire holiday cottage is ideally placed to explore the Moors. There are great walking, cycling and running routes in the local area, through some of the most unspoilt countryside Yorkshire has to offer. At the top of Carlton Bank above the village is the historical site of Lord Stones Country Park, a wonderful walking area, also with parking and a café. Running by the village is the famous 100-mile Cleveland Way walk, which runs between Helmsley and Filey on the east coast. We recommend a short hike up Roseberry Topping, a favourite walk for Captain James Cook who grew up nearby in Great Ayton.

Another must-do for the active visitor is to hire a mountain bike or electric bike from the popular Rusty Bike Cafe in nearby Swainby. Thcafé is a destination in itself, offering coffee and delicious home-baked cakes in front of a cosy fire. Guests can, of course, bring their own bikes to Weavers Cottage and are welcome to use the secure storage outside.

Further afield, we recommend a drive to Saltburn, Sandsend or Whitby. Enjoy scenic coastal settings, plenty of attractions, long beach walks and some really great restaurants. Read our guide to surfing for the first time in Saltburn.

The nearest mainline train station to Weavers Cottage is Northallerton, on the mainline from London to Edinburgh, twenty minutes’ drive away.
